JUNI
Nach Jason B. Crawford after Mark Bibbons
Who wouldn’t have preferred a longer June;
JUNI
After Jason B. Crawford after Mark Bibbons
Who wouldn’t have preferred a longer June;
on birthdays, high above the clouds, your grandfather, aged
139, speaks to you from the depths or the heavens? Holding
the ears of wheat in hand he shows you, and Alice Notley in
Paris, furious over the deaths of both her husbands and her
stroke, stranded in grief—you’re right in the middle of it when
life is like this in June; it rains every night as if everyone were
already dead— the voices, the voices early in the morning on
Clark Street you try to hold on to the grief like a child to its
mother’s hand—impossible, this burden without a balance
GET UP WITH IT
Freddy war hingerissen von Miles Davis „Get up with it“ usw.
GET UP WITH IT
Whenever Freddy came to visit and brought Miles Davis records with him, those were the highlights. Freddy was crazy about Miles Davis’s “Get Up with It” and so on. I bought the record right away. Eventually, it became clear that things weren’t going to work out between Freddy and me; he was head over heels for his Spanish dancer. Miles Davis stayed in my record collection and was the spirit of Freddy in my room. We sat here and listened to the records. When he raved about the Spanish woman. That hurt and still hurts. Freddy has been dead for a long time; the dancer is still married to the therapist who is also a drummer, just like Freddy. That’s how life goes its own way and leaves heartbreak in every direction. None of us ended up happy. What about Miles Davis? Was he happy? We don’t know. They say he treated his wife badly. They say there were always other women. If Freddy were still alive, maybe things would be different, maybe completely different, maybe just right
In honor of Miles Davis's 100th birthday on May 26, 2026
